Eugene J. Diggs II
Eugene J. Diggs II is a dedicated music educator and accomplished band director from Washington, D.C. A graduate of Crossland High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland, he earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Morgan State University, where he served as drum major for four years and was Vice President of Membership for the Eta Gamma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Diggs began his teaching career in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he founded the district’s only middle school marching band. He later became Director of Bands at Hopewell High School, growing the program from 16 to 140 students, earning national recognition and multiple Grand Champion awards.
Mr. Diggs returned to Morgan State as assistant to Dr. Melvin Miles and later served under Dr. Jorim Reid, helping the band reach its first appearance at the Honda Battle of the Bands. He then led the band program at Lincoln University in Missouri, tripling its size and contributing to new curriculum development. He holds a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University and is pursuing a Doctorate in Music Education at Boston University, focusing on differences in music education at HBCUs and PWIs. Now at Delaware State University, Mr. Diggs is committed to elevating The Approaching Storm band through excellence, discipline, and respect for the university’s legacy.
