Learning Outcomes
At program completion DSU students are expected to have the knowledge, skills, and perspectives to serve college students and to foster the learning and development of college students in a wide variety of student affairs or student success areas. The following specific program objectives are consistent with the current program assessment plan:
Program Core Competency I: Diversity
- Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion across educational contexts and within the in the adult & higher education profession
- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of diversity and educational equity issues in the adult & higher education profession
Program Core Competency II: Adult & College Student Development
- Knowledge of concepts and principles of adult/college student development and learning
- Ability to facilitate student engagement and involvement in programming to promote student learning and development that are based on current research on student learning and development theories.
Program Core Competency III: Assessment
- Ability to interpret assessment and research data in adult and higher education
- Ability to analyze research and assessment in adult and higher education
- Knowledge of foundational level assessment, evaluation, and research methodologies in adult and higher education
Program Core Competency IV: Student Success
- Knowledge of advising and supporting strategies in adult and higher education
- Ability to use theory and knowledge to practice the adult/higher education profession effectively and ethically in the areas of advising and supporting students
