Makda T. Maru, Ph.D.

Dr. Makda T. Maru is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the History, Political Science and Philosophy Department. Maru holds a Ph.D. in International Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University, USA; MA in Gender and Peacebuilding from University for Peace, Costa Rica; and LLB from Mekelle University, Ethiopia. She has teaching experience in international relations, political science, peace and security and law. In addition, she has considerable industry experience working on these issues with NGOs and government agencies. Dr. Maru has co-authored a research monograph on practical disarmament in Ethiopia published by the Regional Center on Small Arms (RECSA) and an article on diversionary theory analysis of Ethiopia-Eritrea War. Her research looks at conflict early warning and response decisions, migration, women’s political participation, and China-Africa diplomatic relations. She is a member of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (ELWA).
